IT was almost the perfect week for Northern Squash Club with victories for five of the six teams in action.
The firsts at last enjoyed a change of fortune overcoming Dragons firsts 3-2. Despite a defeat for Alex Manion against former Northern favourite Doug Scholes and Peter Stanton forced to retire hurt, a walk-over for Mick Henderson and impressive wins for Alex Cunningham and JohnŠSumner ensured the points.
ŠThere was a fourth win on the trot for the seconds, 3-2 winners at Victoria Leisure, where Gary Powell, Heather Tweedle and Matt Davies were the match winners while the thirds ended their seven game losing streak by claiming a decisive 4-1 success against Liverpool Cricket Club thirds.
Mark Halliwell, Chips Johnson, Graham Lynch and Kevin Morrison proved to be the players hitting form.
ŠThe fourths, presently enjoying a rich vein of form, added to their successes by winning at Neston. Steve Nemo, Darren Cochrane and Dave Cookson all starred in the 3-2 win.
Visitors Xaverian thirds were overwhelmed by Northern fifthsŠ as the mix of experience and youth proved a winning formula. Steve Noakes, Pop McKenzie, Mike Cunningham, Mark Griffiths and Jason Cunningham were in commanding form.
ŠAlas, there was further misery for the sixths, beaten 4-1 on the cold courts of Dragon thirds.
Young Alex Berry however overcame the conditions to maintain his winning run.
