PETER Cumiskey's strike less than 10 minutes before the final whistle secured Marine their first win in seven matches and brought with it hope for next season.

This game with North Ferriby United was largely dire but as Cumsikey held off three United defenders before calmly passing the ball past Steve Wilson on 82 minutes, it gave the crowd a rare moment to cheer.

The veteran striker certainly made an impact on his arrival in the game 10 minutes after the restart and almost laid on the Mariners' opener a few minutes before he struck.

Picking out Peter McShane at the back post, the midfielder's header looked to be going in but Shaun Tuck diverted the ball against the post and out for a goal kick.

A first three points since the injury-time win over Prescot Cables, the 1-0 victory gave caretaker manager Kevin Lynch his first triumph since taking the job and increases his chances of landing the role full-time.
