CARETAKER manager Kevin Lynch believes his Marine side are beginning to play with pride once again.
In temporary charge for two games, Lynch has so far been unable to engineer an upturn in the Mariners’ fortunes as they suffered defeats to Cammell Laird and Kendal Town over the Easter weekend.
Sitting seven points clear of the drop zone, a win from one of their remaining three fixtures will guarantee the Whites’ place in the UniBond Premier Division next season with Lynch as keen as ever to still be in charge come the start of the new campaign.
This weekend, Marine travel to play-off chasing Guiseley looking for a first win in four matches before they make the trip to Ilkeston Town on Tuesday night.
Lynch said: “The crowd applauded us coming off the pitch on Monday (after the 1-0 defeat to Kendal) and hopefully they can see we are moving in the right direction.
“I think we have shown that we are proud to wear the Marine shirt and the fans can hopefully see the players are giving that little bit extra.
“Hopefully if given the job then I can build a squad that is challenging for promotion next season - if not then I should think about changing sports.
“Football is a results business and for us to go so long without a win is unheard of but the effort is there.
