GREAT Crosby Catholic Primary School ‘Old Boys’ U14s played Forefield Reds in a Junior League decider.

It was the Reds who won the day in a five-goal thriller.

In a ‘winner takes all’ situation, the ‘Old Boys’ didn’t take their chances in the first half despite playing well.

Meanwhile, Forefield Reds’ Josh Flower took the two opportunities that fell his way.

Trailing 2-0 at half-time, the ‘Old Boys’ manager called for cool heads and renewed efforts. A Ben Sloan double, playing through the pain barrier, brought the ‘Old Boys’ back into the match.

But football can be a cruel game and the Reds won the encounter when Jake Wilson rose to head in from a corner.

This was heartbreaking for a team that are undoubtedly the fairest in the league and they can hold their heads high as they lost in the correct way.
