NICK DOUGHERTY moved up six places to 98th in the European Tour’s Race to Dubai order of merit when he finished in a share of 31st place in the Ballantine’s Championship at Jeju Island in South Korea.
The Berkshire-based Liverpudlian finished with a five over par total of 293 to pick up 17,430 euros and take his season’s total to 92,224 from ten starts.
A one under par 71 saw Dougherty sharing 55th place after a low scoring first day, a level par 72 moved him up to a share of 34th at the halfway stage then despite a five over par 77 on day three he moved up to a share of 27th going into the final round, where he posted a one over par 73.
Dougherty misses the Spanish Open in Girona starting on Thursday as the tour returns to Europe after two tournaments in the Far East.
Bromborough’s Paul Waring, who played two weeks ago in China, is in the field along with Phil Archer from Warrington and Southport’s Lee Slattery who haven’t played since the Estoril Open in Portugal at the beginning of April. All three need a good week in Spain to climb up the order of merit.
Waring is down in 190th place in the money list with 25,414 euros having made the halfway cut in just four of the nine events he has played this season.
Archer lies 132nd with 60,864 euros from 11 starts, while Slattery is down in 219th with just 16,400 euros from 10 starts.
Former Cheshire and England player David Horsey from Styal also plays in Spain.
Horsey, in his rookie season having topped the Challenge Tour rankings last year, has made a good start and currently lies 56th with 186,632 euros.
