Jan Gadzina the star as Northern draw at Northop Hall

JAN Gadzina was the star in Northern’s draw at Smithy Lane, Northop Hall, last Saturday, claiming 4-54, from his 23 overs.

Gadzina bowled 18 overs on the bounce in his first shift into the wind, but Alex Smith still fell, helped by a catch from Adrian Fraser, with only five runs on the scoreboard.

Danny Nolan, 30, and Dave Kennedy, rallied their side compiling a second wicket partnership of 45.

Progress slowed however as Dave Kennedy, lasting 122 deliveries for his 46, guided the Welshmen to 107 for 5 from 41.4 overs, helped by Simon Butler, Matthew Cree, 19, and Gareth Williams, until he was stumped by James Cole off the bowling of Jack Woosey, 1 for 53.

Anthony Sparks, 31, and Daren Peters, 36, raised the tempo adding 58 for the seventh wicket.

Ally Roberts and Will Higginson steered the Smithy Lane outfit to a declaration on 200 for 8 from a rather excessive 66 overs.

Paul Park weighed in with 2 for 58.

Northern, with 38 overs to knock off the deficit, replied brightly as Adrian Fraser, 27, and Jack Boardman, 26, compiled an opening stand of 58.

However wickets tumbled regularly as Simon Butler, 4 for 51, and Danny Nolan, 3 for 28, got amongst the Northern batsmen.
