NEW Marine manager Kevin Lynch says landing the job was the easy part but building a squad for next season is the real challenge.
The Mariners announced Lynch as their permanent boss on Monday after the 33-year-old spent the final five games of the season as caretaker manager, claiming his first points in Saturday’s 1-0 win over North Ferriby United.
The former Vauxhall Motors and Droylsden midfielder, who was interviewed for the post on Friday and informed on Sunday, has revealed he is already on the look out for new players but admits there will not be a mass overhaul of the current squad.
Lynch says he has yet to discuss a contract but did confirm he is to be assisted by defender Phil Brazier and striker Peter Cumiskey, who will carry on with the player-coach he has adopted for the last five Marine matches - much to the delight of the new boss.
Lynch said: “I am made up, for me to be managing a club like Marine is a big honour.
It is about restoring pride and stability, quite a modest statement, but me being me, I want to do really well.
“With the catchment of local people and the up and coming talent, means this is a fantastic opportunity to really do something - I am relishing the challenge.
Also, we are starting to get a young fan base and we want to be able to put a smile on their faces.
“Getting the job is the easy bit, the hard part is assembling a squad good enough to get up the league.
