MMA fighters making names for themselves at Crosby’s Kiai Centre

MMA Fighters from Kiai Centre

THE Kiai Centre Mixed Martial Arts Fight team had its last training session on Sunday with their advanced MMA coach, former UFC ultimate fighter Ross ‘The Gladiator’ Pointon.

This was in preparation for their trip to Leicester for the MMA Battle Arena show where the Kiai Centre's James Bray will be fighting for the British middleweight title.

In addition, there will be the opportunity to fight in Japan later in the year.

This title contest, and local fighter Neil Smith fighting for the heavyweight title in March, are really putting Crosby on the map in Mixed Martial Arts.

These title fights and being able to attract such a high profile MMA coach as Ross Pointon is a real achievement for the Kiai Centre and for the local people of Crosby who use the venue.

The centre is a not-for-profit community gym and receives no funding or financial support apart from sponsors Mojoes and Novia clothing.

The club is appealing to local businesses who may like to be involved and to help with travel and other costs.

In return they will receive a link on the club’s website and their company advertised on the club’s clothing range and posters.

There are currently more than 50 under-18s using the centre and money raised in rent is paid to Sefton Council to help provide essential services to children in the borough.

THERE has been a change to the timetable which sees Ross Pointon’s MMA class now being held every Tuesday evening at 6pm. Sessions cost £5 for adults and £4 for under-18s. There are also karate, ladies circuit, under-14s MMA and chi ball sessions. For more details call 07905-767585.
