This could have been a banana skin of a match, but there was to be no monkeying around as Powell excelled.

The table-topping thirds extended their lead at the summit of their division.

Jason Bebatov and Jack Riley both won close games before DJ Salt and captain Graham Lynch disposed of their opponents with ease.

Performance of the night, however, went to Mark Redman. Having gone all season without a win, Redman made it two victories from his last two matches, as his continued extra training is paying off.

The fifth team had a tough fixture at home against Knowsley firsts and were unlucky not to record a victory.

Suzanne Rutherford won a close five-setter before captain Rigsby was his normal tight self, proving too mean for his opponent.

The third and decisive victory did not materialise, though, as Andrew Allan, Ade Taiwo and Amy Barnes all lost their matches.

Alec Dalglish’s sixth team made it four wins out of four and ensured maximum points for their captain.

Martin Gladwin, Steve Kyriacou and Andrew Beeston all managed straight set victories, whilst Col Walker and Ricky Lall completed the rout.

Captain Dalglish now sees his team lying just outside the promotion places with his squad getting stronger each week.
