MARINE went down to defeat on Saturday, losing 3-1 to League leaders North Ferriby United at the Rapid Solicitors Stadium.
The Crosby side certainly made a much better showing than the previous week’s home outing, with little to choose between the sides but being sunk by two early goals from set pieces.
Indeed Ferriby were a goal up with just three minutes gone, Ryan Williams putting in a good free kick from the left and full back Dean Lisles converting at the far post from close range.
John Shaw put Nick Rogan through at the other end, the front man not getting any real purchase on his shot and seeing it go well wide of Adam Nicklin’s goal.
The home side forced Callum Williams in to a save, the young keeper doing well to get down and claim the ball after Danny Clarke had latched on to Anthony Wilson’s reverse pass.
Ferriby took a firm grip on proceedings after 19 minutes, Williams’ attempted punch of Nathan Peat’s inswinging corner falling to Kendall for an easy finish.
Marcus Carver – playing the last game of his current loan spell – skilfully nipped past a tackle to shoot, his powerful effort being charged down by Gregg Anderson.
The popular striker was not to be denied for long though, an excellently crafted team goal starting with Rogan’s run, to feed Michael Ordish to provide a tempting cross slid in to the net by Carver on 28 minutes, his 10th goal of the season putting the Yellows back in the game.
The sides exchanged shots on goal as the half drew to a close, Rogan firing over the top after a good run and then Kendall’s effort flying wide of the angle of post and bar for the hosts.
Ferriby began the second half on top and had openings through Kendall, shooting over the bar from the edge of the area and Chris Bolder heading wide as Williams came out to block.
Ten minutes in to the half they restored their two goal cushion, the ball being half cleared to the D and Clarke smashing home an unstoppable volley in to the bottom corner.
The Yellows pushed forward to try to salvage something from the game, with their best chances coming from free kicks, Alan Burton’s effort from close range bringing a good save from Nicklin and then Carver’s shot striking the wall, Shaun Dowling’s follow up going wide of the goal.
