THREE second round ties of the Crosby & District Football Leagues’ Lal Evans Memorial Cup were completed last Sunday with wins for Oak Tree Pub, St William of York and Saltbox.
In a game to remember, Saltbox had a titanic struggle to eventually overcome Mottram on penalties after drawing 7-7 after extra time.
Paul Colbeck scored three for Mottram and Mike McKeown netted two of Saltbox’s goals.
Oak Tree Pub enjoyed a comfortable 6-0 win at Car & Commercial Bootle thanks to goals from Carl McKenna, Graham Bellis and two each from John Murphy and John Walton.
St William of York won 3-0 over The Brooke Harbour with Mick Torrence scoring one and Rob Devine grabbing the other goals.
In the Don Williams Premier Division, The Laburnum opened up a three point lead at the top following a 6-2 win over Brookfield with Steve Horan scoring a hat-trick and Paul Kelly a brace with Adam Burton scoring the sixth.
Second-placed Kirkstone were beaten 6-3 by improving Reunion. Anthony Fearns scored four for Reunion supported by Keith Houghton with a brace, with John Maguire notching all three for Kirkstone.
The Jollys recorded a fine 6-1 win over The Beaconsfield with Steve Singleton scoring three times plus singles from Tony Higgins, James Griffiths and Joe McClements.
