Cole brothers fire-up Northern for fine win
NORTHERN Cricket Club’s Cole brothers helped fire their team to an impressive victory over Fleetwood Hesketh in the Business Assistance Liverpool & District Cricket Competition.
The clash, on June 20, saw brothers Steve and James in fabulous form.
Opener Steve hit an undefeated 73 and James added 70 in a fantastic third wicket stand of 134 which provided the bedrock for Northern’s seven timbers triumph.
Steve also snapped up six for 15 in a devastating spell of bowling which kept Fleetwood’s batsmen well in check in their innings.
Fleetwood skipper Gary Wells (62) Neil Rimmer (27), Derek Sykes (15) and Faisal Yasin (48) put the Sea Cop outfit in a great position on 136 for 3.
Steve Cole was introduced to the attack in the 43rd over and sent the visitors crashing to 170 all out after a further 13.3 overs.
Aaron Halsall (one for 22) and Yasin (two for 42) sent Northern tumbling to 15 for 2 in response.
However, the Cole brothers then set the game alight with their superb third wicket liaison leaving John Wildman, undefeated on 15, to complete a resounding victory with more than six overs to spare.
