THE Herald today reveals the best restaurants in and around Crosby, according to ratings on website Trip Advisor.
Diners and holidaymakers from across the UK have reviewed more than 30 eateries in the area which have been ranked by the comments.
The reviews and star ratings are not monitored by the website and cannot be officially verified.
Rated number one in the town by diners is the Lemon Tree Bistro on Bridge Road.
Not only is the popular venue the favourite in Crosby, but it is also rated number one in Liverpool, beating off competition from some of the city’s most prestigious restaurants.
With more than 45 reviews, 100% of customers would recommend the Lemon Tree to another.
The restaurant offers diners a delicious selection of Mediterranean-inspired dishes, each with their own little twist.
Their menu changes every eight weeks giving the chefs a chance to share more of their creations with customers.
A diner from Southport commented on Trip Advisor: “I have been coming to the Lemon Tree for more than six years and have never had a bad meal which is more than I can say for a lot of places.
“The quality of the food, the service and value for money are excellent.
“The only problem we now have is that we have to book in advance as it's become very popular!”
Another added: “I make no apology for reviewing this fab little bistro/restaurant again.
“Great food, great service and great night out, all at a reasonable price.
“You've just got to give it a go.”
Second on the list is the Little Pizza Kitchen on South Road.
The family-friendly restaurant is famous for its pizza and pasta selection and also appears on the Liverpool list at number 20.
One diner who was impressed with their attitude towards children wrote: “Located on the better end of a busy high street, the Little Pizza Kitchen has friendly staff, a good solid menu, is priced reasonably with some talent in the kitchen.
“I must confess I've only ever been here with my 18-month-old, and the staff are always very receptive – high chair and colouring books presented to us without asking, and juice in a beaker with a straw.”
Another happy customer added: “My pizza was excellent – thin, crispy dough and tasty toppings of cheese, tomato, anchovies and olives. This combination was not on the menu but the cook was perfectly happy to make it up to my request.
“The meal was good value for money too. Thoroughly recommended – though bear in mind that all the pizzas are made individually from scratch and don't be surprised if you have to wait a bit!”
Ranking third is The Fat Italian on Coronation Road.
With more than 50 reviews, the popular eaterie prides itself in offering authentic Italian cuisine.
Its latest review read: “We love the Fat Italian. My husband is from Crosby and we make an effort to go to the Fat Italian every time we visit family.
“The food is beautiful, the service superb, the atmosphere fantastic! Can't praise it enough!”
Another diner from Liverpool added: “This restaurant is absolutely gorgeous.
“Lovely tables and chairs and lighting. Food was excellent and the service impeccable – would recommend to anyone.”
So Salsa is up in fourth just one place behind the Fat Italian in both the Crosby and Liverpool Trip Advisor ratings.
Located on Cooks Road, So Salsa offers a variety of both tapas and main course dishes.
Trip Advisor user Michael said: “Nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff who remain attentive during our visits and the restaurant itself is spotless.
“The dining experience for both the food and the establishment is great – good food + smiles = recommendations and repeat business. No wonder they're busy!”
Rated fifth is Charlie Parker’s on Crosby Road North.
The popular venue has been serving up high-quality food in the town for more than 25 years and offers diners a wide range selection of dishes at competitive prices.
Charlie Parker’s looks to be on the up with only one out of 10 of its latest reviews claiming it less than very good.
A visitor from Panama City in Panama commented: “We had a family reunion at Charlie Parker’s and found the food, service and atmosphere very good which was a surprise considering it's not a downtown restaurant.
“Would definitely eat there again on my return to UK.”
Sixth is Pioneer Bar & Brasserie on Liverpool Road.
The restaurant, which was given a four star Environmental Health Award by Sefton Council, has a variety of different drinks and food menus for diners to enjoy.
Cathy from Liverpool said: “Best bar and bistro in Crosby, excellent service, nothing too much trouble, love it here! Try the steaks! Second to none!”
Tapas Tapas is ranked seventh in Crosby according to Trip Advisor.
The family-run business can be found on South Road and has a genuine passion for all things Spanish.
A diner from Liverpool commented: “I've been here many times, Great food, great atmosphere and service. Feel like I'm in Spain having Tapas when I come here.”
Ranked eighth by the website’s users is Saffron on St John’s Road.
The eatery offers diners an extensive selection of authentic Indian cuisine seven days a week.
Ramsay from Liverpool said: “We don't think there's a better Indian restaurant on Merseyside.”
Ninth place goes to Annie’s Tea Rooms on Endbutt Lane.
Many diners claim that they discovered the restaurant by accident but were that impressed they will be returning.
One customer from Cumbria said: “We loved the decor, the food was great and the service excellent. There is a good menu and you can get breakfasts, lunch or just a snack.
“There was a fab variety of freshly made cakes. We will certainly pop in here again when we are next in Crosby and I hope that she does well.”
Red Squirrel ranks in at number 10.
Situated on Orrell Hill Lane in Ince Blundell, the Red Squirrel is ran by successful pub chain Harvester.
Sarah from Ainsdale commented in her review: “Always pass but never go in until recently and so glad we did, food is delicious, way above standards usually for places in the same price range, staff were attentive and poIite and prices are incredible, will be back that's for sure.”
