PREVIEW: Southport Dramatic Club present spoof version of John Buchan’s 39 Steps

BASED on John Buchan’s murder mystery novel and Alfred Hitchcock's subsequent film script, The 39 Steps will take audiences into the life of an innocent man, Richard Hannay, who is on the run and trying to escape the police for a murder he did not commit.

James Hughes-Alty directs the play which describes a man's flirtation with espionage, following his meeting with an attractive young lady and her murder at his apartment after she reveals some secret information.

With minimal scenery and simple visual props this play – which spoofs the original – is guaranteed to contain comedy and thrills galore and will leave the audiences both laughing hysterically and gasping for air.

John Buchan’s masterful suspense novel and Alfred Hitchcock’s film of the same name provides inspirational raw matter for the play which promises an edge-of-the-seat-suspense experience like none other.

Stephen Hughes-Alty, John Delahunty, Beth Milligan and Adrian Roberts make up the cast of four who, between them, play over 130 characters. A masterpiece of theatrical invention, the play opens at the Little Theatre on Friday, November 23, and runs to Saturday, December 1.

The box office is now open.
