Southport’s newest radio station - Mighty FM - will begin its first broadcasts on Monday from its HQ inside Southport Market

SOUTHPORT'S new community radio station has unveiled its exciting line-up of shows and presenters.

Mighty FM starts a month-long test transmission on Monday (November 19) on 87.7fm and will broadcast from inside Southport Market.

If successful, there are plans to apply for a full-time licence next year.

Presenters include former ITV Heartbeat actor and resort resident David Lonsdale, who will host a Sunday show about musical theatre.

Steve Dickson, chief executive of Sefton Chamber of Commerce, will present a Thursday Drivetime programme mixing business news with music.

Mr Dickson, who led the original consortium win of the 107.9 licence for the resort and was managing director of Dune FM before its sale in 1999, said: “It is imperative that the station and frequency for Southport are not lost. This 28-day broadcast will prove that an audience and revenues are still here. I'm looking forward to mixing up local business opportunities and information with great music.”

Other presenters include Andy Wrobb, Phil Johnson, Nicola Hudson, James Cave, Chris Strefford, Neil Jackson, Karen Johnson, Kev Peet, Russ Broadbent, Phil King, Dave Turley, Phil Roberts, Mark Philips, Hollie Clark, Adam Spencer plus the Visiter's Live Sounds correspondent Martin Hovden.

Mighty FM bosses Dave Quinn and Trevor Ford will present the weekday breakfast show plus Mighty Madness every Sunday night from 8pm-10pm.

They said: “We're really proud of our schedule and presenters. It puts the emphasis on providing local news, views, sport and music with a combination of experienced broadcasters plus those who are new to radio.

“We want Mighty FM to be the true radio voice of Southport. We've been overwhelmed by the response from local businesses and the community and we can't wait to go on air at midnight on Sunday.”

Dave and Trevor will spread the word about Mighty FM at this Sunday's switch-on of the Christmas Lights in Southport's Lord Street.
