Southport people are urged to nominate their Community Heroes

THE search is on for the unsung heroes of our communities ... and we want you to nominate the people in your neighbourhood who deserve recognition.

Your Heroes is our special awards scheme, sponsored by ScottishPower, to reward all those people who go the extra mile for other people.

We have got a series of categories, open to all age groups, and all you have to do is send us a testimonial, telling is why they deserve recognition.

And your efforts could result in them being invited to our glittering awards ceremony early next year, when the gongs will be handed out.

Local heroes are the lifeblood of our communities, but all too often they don’t get the recognition they deserve.

A hero could be the person who saves somebody else’s life. But equally it could be the fundraiser, the community group leader or the teacher that does that little bit more to help others.

Or it could be the pupil or pupils who have done something special to make their school or their neighbourhood a better place.

If you work at a school, think of the people who could do with a pat on the back for what they do beyond the call of duty.

If you are involved in sport, think of the person or people who make it all happen and put their name forward.

We are looking for nominations in the following categories..

The People/Person Hero Award

The Team Hero Award

The Volunteer Hero Award

The Young Person Hero Award

The Sports Person Hero Award

Each category will have a winner and from the winners the judges will also select a ‘winner of winners’ which will be announced at the ceremony itself, organised in partnership with our sponsors Scottish Power.

Editor Andrew Edwards said: “We have already had nominations from all walks of life and it is really uplifting to see so many deserving people being put forward for awards.”

To nominate, fill in the form here on this page or visit the advertised website address and provide a written testimonial on why they deserve recognition. You have room for a brief statement on the form itself, but you should submit up to 250 words separately, giving full details of why your nominee deserves an award. We have extended the deadline. But your forms must be with us by Monday, December 24.
