Georgina Duncan from Crosby takes home five trophies in Southport and Fleetwood’s Speech and Music Festivals

A BUDDING performer from Crosby has beaten off stiff competition from tens of children to take home a number of awards in last month’s Speech and Music Festivals.

Georgina Duncan, a pupil at St Mary’s in Crosby, entered the events in both Southport and Fleetwood.

Overall the ten-year-old, who wants to work in musical theatre in the future, took home two first place trophies for verse speaking, first for her performance of When She Loved Me from Toy Story 2, and both second and third across the competitions for singing the Thoroughly Modern Milly title-track.

The Southport festival took place at Scarisbrick New Road Baptist Church.

Georgina’s dad, Andrew, said that the schoolgirl has been interested in the performing arts since she was seven, and currently receives singing and drama tuition from Michelle Taylor in Crosby.

Georgina said: "This has been my reward for a lot of hard work and practice and one small step nearer my goal of having a career in musical theatre."

She is next set to take to the stage as Molly in Maghull Musical Theatre’s production of Annie which will be shown at the Southport Little Theatre this month.
