ROTARIANS in Crosby handed over more than £12,000 to help Indian dementia sufferers.
The cheque for £12,350 was presented to Professor Vikram Patel, one of the co-founders of the charity Sangath, on March 11 when he visited the Rotary Club of Crosby.
Prof Patel gave a talk to members about the work Sangath do for the mentally ill in Goa, where the money raised will help to provide access to services for those currently suffering alone.
Funds raised during the last three years and are being donated to the Community Outreach Project to support people suffering from Dementia in South Goa, India.
The club staged three gala nights at Formby Hall Golf Club to raise the money.
Ronnie Coutinho, the club’s incoming president said: “I’m from Goa myself and I went to Goa four or five years ago and was asked if we could help them.
“I’ve been in Crosby for eight or nine years and I’m the new club president from July this year.”
