Councillors agree bollard plan to protect houses

RESIDENTS in Crosby have expressed their joy after plans for bollards to protect their homes from vehicles were approved.

Calls for safety measures along Chesterfield Road and Brownmoor Lane came following a string of incidents involving vehicles losing control and crashing into properties.

The most recent took place in January this year when a car driver lost control and ploughed in to the home of Anita and Philip Quigley.

Anita and grandson Lewis, 4, were asleep in the Chesterfield Road property when the vehicle hit the front of the house.

Both escaped uninjured, but the extent of the damage was so substantial that it is unlikely her and her husband will be able to move back in to their home until later this year.

This was not the first time a vehicle crashed into the Quigleys’ house. In 2008 a van collided with the bay window of the property, causing substantial damage.

And in July 2001, major damage was caused to neighbour Sean Casey’s house after a car crashed in to his home.

This catalogue of destruction led to calls from residents and local councillors for traffic calming measures and bollards to be introduced in order to protect properties from further vehicle collision damage.
