Police probe bogus vicar George Christopher Gordon

A MANHUNT was launched last night to pin down a fake vicar suspected of stealing thousands in European grant money meant for the area’s most vulnerable.

George Christopher Gordon – who bought his bogus title off a Canadian website – is suspected of spinning an astonishing web of lies to gain influence at Merseyside Disability Federation, a body that supports local voluntary groups.

The 48-year-old is said to have operated scams from bases including Waterloo’s 3TC charity centre on Crosby Road North and Oxford Road to conduct multiple frauds.

The Fazakerley man was arrested in August 2008 but failed to answer bail. He is listed as ‘wanted’ on the Police National Computer.

Detective Sergeant Richie Jones said: "We urgently want to speak to George Gordon in relation to his failure to answer police bail and in connection with some serious allegations of fraud.

“We are actively seeking him and would appeal for him to contact us first.”

Members of the Merseyside self-help branch of the Bipolar Organisation told the Herald Gordon claimed to have suffered from manic depression – and was also riddled with cancer.
