A CONVENIENCE store in Litherland is applying to extend its opening hours to allow the sale of alcohol from 6am until midnight.
Super Saver on Pendle View also wants to remove the requirement that all alcohol is securely stored and screened from the public by clear perspex dividers.
However, people living nearby have objected to the licensing committee over fears that the increased hours will promote anti-social behaviour, noise and nuisance.
Residents have submitted a petition with nearly 40 signatures, claiming the changes will lead to noise trouble and increase problems of litter in the immediate area.
In a letter to Sefton Council, Christina Taylor of Bowland Drive said that there were often gangs of boys and girls sitting outside the shop on a wall, drinking.
“All the owners do is lock up and leave all the noise for us to put up with.”
She also added that she hoped the council would consider the residents who had been living there for more than 30 years.
In an email to the committee, Anthony Warnock of Sefton Road said: “The opening hours from 6am to midnight would attract late night drinkers from other areas and encourage the likelihood of disturbance to residents in a residential area.”
The application will be discussed at Sefton Council’s licensing committee next Friday (July 10).
