Grandad's John O’Groats to Land’s End cancer charity ride

A HIGHTOWN grandfather will cycle from John O’Groats to Land’s End – by borrowing the postman’s bike!

Les Holmes, 68, will undertake the 1,000 mile ride in a bid to raise money for the Oncology Unit at Clatterbridge Hospital, in support of their 50th Anniversary Appeal.

And what better form of transport to take than the postman’s two-wheeler?

Les, a part time cycle mechanic at Pedal Power in Formby, first came up with the idea when he was repairing a bike for Formby Post Office.

He explained: “They bring them in to be repaired and one day I got on one and thought, ‘That would be something different!’”

Les decided to support Clatterbridge after losing members of his family to cancer.

He said: “It’s all about raising as much money for Clatterbridge as possible, it is a fantastic cause. It touches everyone in some way.”
