A NEW Home Bargains store will open its doors in Crosby Village on Saturday – bringing with it 40 new jobs.
The company is investing around £500,000 in the new shop, which will be based at the former Somerfield store site on Moor Lane.
One of the iconic Superlambananas will make an appearance at the grand opening.
Home Bargains bought a number of the statues at a charity auction in Liverpool and is sharing them with customers across the UK.
The store is located opposite to where the new Sainsbury’s supermarket will be built.
A planning application for Sainsbury’s is expected to be submitted in June or July and work is set to start in 2010 with a view to opening the supermarket in 2011.
Public consultation will be carried out before the Sainsbury’s plans are submitted and an exhibition of the plans will be on public display next month.
News of the Home Bargains store opening with bring some light relief to residents who have described the village as a “ghost town” in the past year.
