Crosby man jailed for five years for smuggling racket

A PROLIFIC Waterloo smuggler, who attempted to bring more than four million cigarettes through Liverpool docks, was handed a five year jail sentence for his crime.

Sentencing Kevin Kearney, of Brooke Road West, for his role in the £815,514 international conspiracy his honour Judge Hale QC said the 54-year-old was “driven by greed.”

Kearney was described in Warrington Crown Court yesterday as a prolific and repetitive cigarette smuggler.

In 2007, revenue and customs officers arrested and charged Kearney, and co-defendant Gabriel McLaughlin, of Warrington, with conspiracy to smuggle the cigarettes.
