Man charged with 84 counts of impersonating a medic, a vet, ABH and sexual assault.

POSING as a vet and a doctor, assaulting patients, and castrating a pony – these are just some of the 84 charges Russell Lewis Oakes faces.

These include an allegation that the 42-year-old posed as a doctor and carried out a blood test, issuing a false certificate of results, at an address at Cambridge Road Crosby.

Oakes, of Shore Road, Hesketh Bank, appeared before North Sefton Magistrates on Friday (April 3) along with co-defendant Joanne Conroy, 39, of the same address, who is charged with perverting the course of justice.

Magistrate Mr F Dainty agreed to requests from Alison Clarkson, prosecuting, and Nick Archer, defending, that the case be heard at Liverpool Crown Court on July 7.

On that date the 42-year-old osteopath will face allegations of fraud, sexual assault and actual bodily harm dating from as far back as 2005. It is alleged that Oakes made £11,246.35 by posing as a vet and a doctor – despite having no official training in either discipline, prosecutors claim.

The 42-year-old, who has not yet indicated his plea, has been granted bail until his appearance at Liverpool Crown Court.
