TMS U8s 1
THE Mini Mariners completed the Hightown League and Cup double with a scintillating display of football against a good TMS team under the floodlights at Formby FC.
With the Marine midfield in a dominant mood, Peter Silcock was first to capitalise, receiving the ball quickly he went a on a great run down the left before cutting in and finishing in emphatic style to give Marine a deserved lead. Minutes later Peter Silcock broke again down the left, only this time his shot was well saved by the TMS keeper, the loose ball was pounced upon by a following up Fin Swift who finished very calmly under pressure. There was to be no let up for a shell-shocked TMS as Max Smith collected the ball on the right and went on a cross field run before intelligently finding an unmarked Peter Silcock on the left, again the keeper was slightly unfortunate when the resulting shot was saved only for Silcock to follow up and finish neatly. With minutes left in the first half the game was effectively put out of reach for TMS when a superb strike by Max Smith sailed into the top corner giving Marine a seemingly unassailable 4-0 lead going into half time.
From the kick-off Fin Swift played it back to Brad Roberts and set of towards goal, a deft chip from Roberts found the forward running Swift who took it round the last defender and finish off a wonderful move.
Kieron Thornton got the ball on the left and beat his marker with ease before sending over a great cross from the bye line to find Brad Roberts who finished off. It took a wonderful long range shot from a TMS forward to get their consolation past an unlucky Paul Williams.

Burscough Bullets U9s 0
AT THE start of the second half Marine took the lead.
Quick thinking from a throw-in caught the Burscough defence napping as the ball found an unmarked Peter Silcock on the edge of the area. The in-form striker controlled the ball well and finished off with a sweet strike. Burscough had not learned their lesson from the first goal as another quick throw-in from the left found Peter Silcock unmarked again. He took his shot well but this time it struck the inside of the post and under the keeper.
