AN ME sufferer from Crosby has hailed the work of a doctor who has helped her reclaim her life.
Pat Fogg, of Portland Avenue, was first diagnosed with ME, also known as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), six years ago but suffered from the symptoms for over 20 years.
Her symptoms were so severe that she had to give up work as a carer and was bed-bound for almost six months.
Now, thanks to a revolutionary treatment programme devised by Manchester-based doctor Raymond Perrin, Pat has started to reclaim her life.
Pat, 62, said: “It first started 20 years ago when I kept getting colds. The doctors prescribed me antibiotics but they never worked.
“It was until six years ago when I was told I had ME. It was a relief to find out what I actually had rather than people just thinking I was lazy, a hypochondriac or a storyteller.
“But there was nothing around to help me with my illness, I was just being prescribed painkillers and anti-depressants.
“Then I came across Dr Perrin and his work and I thought I’d give it go as I had nothing to lose.
“Since I went to see Dr Perrin for the first time 12 months ago, I have improved so much.
“I can actually get out of bed now and I am in less pain and have been getting ill less often.
Dr Perrin’s technique is based on the belief that ME/CFS is a physical disorder that leads to a build up of toxins in the brain and spine.
Treatment involves the drainage of these toxins from the central nervous system.
The mother-of-three, who has eight grandchildren, added: “I have lost 20 years of my life.
“I was that exhausted I couldn’t even pop round the corner to the shop.
“When my illness is at its worst I can’t talk to people, I can’t bear light or sound and I can’t even get out of bed.
“The most upsetting part was missing my grandchildren growing up. Unlike other grandparents I couldn’t take them out or even play with them when they came round to the house.
“It is a shame people are losing their life to this illness.
“I thank my stars for this man, he really has changed my life.”
