St Luke’s looks to future

MEMBERS of St Luke’s Church on Liverpool Road have been invited to bid to the Big Lottery for a grant to enhance their grounds for people and wildlife.

This builds on a previous grant as part of the BBC’s Breathing Places initiative in 2007.

The grant was used to create a community garden, a wildflower meadow and a butterfly garden, which were part of the Crosby and Waterloo in Bloom entry.

A ground force team meets every month to keep the gardens in shape.

Steve Matthews, coordinator of the garden workforce, said: “Our vision is that the grounds should become a place of beauty and a haven for people and wildlife.

“Now we have plans to re-design the entrance to the graveyard and to involve the conservation club at St Luke’s School in recording wildlife using a video diary.”

An open day is planned in June with taster sessions in conservation skills and guided walks through the grounds.

If you have any ideas for improving the grounds at St Luke’s or would like to get involved, please get in touch with Agnes Law on 924 3448 or Ann Somers on 284 9312 by Sunday, February 1.
