Jimmy Carr, The Drifters and Chuckle Brothers among highlights for Southport Theatre 2013 programme

BEFORE the post-Christmas blues have a chance to set in, plan yourself a New Year treat by booking a seat at a forthcoming show at Southport Theatre.

The entertainment from the dark days of World War II is remembered in We’ll Meet Again, a matinee show which includes Adam Daye, from TV’s Who Do You Do, paying homage to the radio stars of the era. The show is staged on Wednesday, April 3.

The families affected by the Hillsborough disaster brought The Hollies to the forefront of the public imagination this Christmas when their ongoing campaign for justice saw a version of the group’s 1969 hit, He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother, take the number one spot. They perform at Southport Theatre on Saturday, April 13.

Save the Last Dance For Me is a musical play which remembers what it was like to be a teenager in the early 1960s and features plenty of tunes from the era. It runs from Monday, April 15, to Saturday, April 20.

The Chuckle Brothers are always a popular draw and they are back by the seaside on Saturday, April 27, with their Meet the Phantom show – when they are called in by a theatre manager to tackle a supposed haunting and put on a show at the same time.

A tribute to Johnny Cash is held on Thursday, May 2, followed by the welcome return of Ken Dodd’s Happiness Show on Saturday, May 4.

Psychic medium Tony Stockwell, a regular face on our TV screens, is at the Floral Hall on Friday, June 7, where he will aim to put members of the audience in touch with those who have passed away.

On Friday, June 14, The Drifters will put some soul in your step as they return with some of the greatest songs ever recorded.

Comedian Jimmy Carr makes one of his regular Southport stops on Saturday, June 15 (book early) and on Thursday, July 4, The Dreamboys will show off some flesh for a grateful crowd.

It’s certainly a varied programme with something to suit every taste and age.
