Food review - Delizzi’s, Southport

Andrew Brown and family dine at superb Southport venue

DELIZZI’S is one of my family’s favourite restaurants in Southport.

But although we’ve been there many times over the past few months, I feel a fraud writing a review for it – as I can’t remember ever ordering anything from the main menu.

Not that it’s not good, the dishes on there look superb. And I’ve tried a few bites from whatever my wife’s ordered.

The pasta dishes are very tasty, the pizzas and salads are good as well, and you can’t top their paninis.

But their specials board must be one of the best in Southport, not just in terms of the quality of the food on offer, but also for the variety – and because of the price.

Fantastic dishes are usually available for under £8 and for what you are getting, they are superb value.

There are a number of “regular” specials marked up on boards on the wall. They include saltimbocca, chicken wrapped in ham and baked, served on a parmesan and sage risotto, which is well worth a visit alone, plus a very fine kedgeree, and some lovely breakfast items.

Other dishes are regularly put on the boards, based on seasonality, the availability of good ingredients and the inspired imagination of Delizzi’s superb chefs.

Here, you cannot go wrong. These plates define a venue where the owners are clearly very passionate about their food. I enjoyed the best Thai green curry I’ve ever enjoyed there recently – and they often produce some fine meals with a Middle Eastern flavour.

My daughter enjoys the fresh food on their children’s menu as well, which is yet another reason for us to keep going back.

The service is exceptional, with very friendly staff making customers feel very welcome.

At a time when many restaurants are struggling for trade, I have never seen Delizzi’s anything less than busy, with a very loyal customer base – many taking a well earned sit down in the middle of shopping visits to Southport town centre – testament to the quality of what it offers.
